WHAT IS
EARTH OVERSHOOT DAY?
According to overshootday.org, Earth Overshoot Day marks the time each year that humanity will require more available natural resources than the Earth will be able to regenerate by the end of that year–meaning we’ll start the next year with fewer resources than the year before. It’s easy to see how that problem could rapidly grow, as we go deeper into ecological-resource-debt. We decided to dedicate our art livestream event to Earth Overshoot Day to raise awareness for this critical time of year.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
The good news is, as much as Earth Overshoot Day could come earlier and earlier in the year, it can also be pushed back!
While there are no simple solutions, anything we can do to reduce the amount of resources needed, or improve the Earth’s ability to replace those resources, goes a long way to delaying Earth Overshoot Day. That’s why CO2ign Art is donating our full commission to an environmental non-profit for purchases made during our stream.
